The Hobbit: another call for a journey

2012TheHobbit01PR200912

Every time I watch Lord of the Rings, my heart burns with the urge to take a journey to become my better self. Whether Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf and now… Bilbo. The story is always about taking an adventure that will kill one’s limited self so that the better self could emerge.

This time, Bilbo is to take a journey that started it all. In fact, I think Bilbo relates more to us than all other lead characters, he is, after all,  a normal folk. He had a seemingly respectable and certain life where things unexpected never really happen, until Gandalf calls him to discover an unexpected parts of himself; that is always there but unseen even by him.

Are we not all a bit like Bilbo? Let’s make the journey and become truly amazed by our own undiscovered self (to borrow the term CG Jung).

My favorite quote by Gandalf: “The world is not in your maps and books. It’s out there.”
